​     The fifth China Statistical Annual Meeting was held in Xiamen city, Fujian province from October 17th to October 19th, 2014. The meeting was undertook by the school of economics of Xiamen University. The topic of annual meeting was “ The Statistics in the Era of Big Data”, which means the challenges and the opportunities of statistics in the new era. More than 200 experts of statistics and scholars at home and abroad participated in this annual meeting. Doctor Xu Xianchun of the National Bureau of Statistics, the statistics discipline appraisal group experts professor Cui Hengjian of the State Council Academic Degree Committee, professor Xiao Hongye of national key discipline leader, professor Qiu Dong of the Yangtze River scholar, professor Wolfgang Karl of the member of International Statistical Association, the chief economist Qiu Xiaohua of Minsheng Securities, professor Xie Bangchang of fujen Catholic university, professor Zeng Wuyi of the member of the professional guidance committee of the statistics of the ministry of education made a speech at the conference. President Luo Liangqing, teacher Ping Weiying , Xu Bing, Guo Lu and Doctoral student Li Jing in school of statistics of JUEF participated in this annual meeting. President Luo Liangqing was invited by the Teaching Guidance Committee of Applied Statistics to make a speech at this meeting. 
      There were nine panel reports in this annual meeting. There are: big data statistical analysis, statistical model and its application, statistical index and index evaluation, social accounting matrix and its application, input-output model and its application, macro economic analysis, economic model, the theory and method of mathematics statistics etc.. In group report, teacher Guo Lu in economic statistics department of our school made a report of “ The Research of Real Estate Price Index Under the Latent Variable Modeling Perspective”, and teacher Xu Bing in financial statistics department made a report of “Government Spending and Economic Growth in China（1952-2011）: An Application of the Smooth Transition Regression Model ”.
        China Statistical Annual Meeting held every two years, which is dominated by the higher college and the national statistics academic exchange conference of purely private nature. It also an academic exchange platform. The Sixth China Statistical Annual Meeting will be held by Beijing Normal University in 2016.
